FERMENTERS, DEMIJOHNS, BUCKETS & VINOTAINERS

The Fermenter is a 5-gall version of the demijohn but in food grade plastic. It has a 4" cap with a hole in the middle of the cap to take the bung and airlock (see equipment page for these).

The Demijohn is a one gallon glass jar with an opening at the top to take an airlock and bung.

The Bucket will hold 5 galls of wine or beer comfortably, is graduated in ltrs and has a snap on lid.

A Vinotainer is a collapsable bag with tap inside a cardboard box. The bag collapses as the wine is drawn off. These are re-usable and handy if you want wine on tap and to avoid the labour of bottling.

BEER KEGS (BARRELS) & SPARES

There are two possibilities when choosing a gassing system to keep your keg topped up with CO2 (see beginners page for an explanation of why you need this)

1. You can purchase a gas cylinder for €25.00 which holds app 240gms of CO2. When it is empty you send it back to us and we can then supply a refill at €3.75. You will have to pay for postage both ways (unless you are ordering other stuff as well)

2. You can use a disposable bulb system - small 8gm bulbs which you discharge into the barrel and then throw away. A box of 10 of these bulbs costs €5.20. So the gas is more expensive in this system but there is no initial cost involved and you do not need to post anything back to us.

Kegs come in two models - the Basic Barrel has a 2" cap and just one handle. The King Keg is sturdier, has 2 handles and a 4" cap (easier to clean) and comes in bottom tap or top tap versions. NB they both make great beer!

BOTTLES

Re-useable bottles for beer and wine including Coopers double walled 500ml pet bottles with screw on caps for bottling beer, featuring oxygen barrier technology to improve in bottle freshness.

BOTTLING AIDS

Rinse and drain a batch of bottles quickly and easily. Add 5 campden tablets to 1 pint of hot water in the rinser. Each bottle is pushed down on the plunger and then transferred to the Drainer. The Little Bottler is a special tap which can be fitted to the botom of a bucket or fermenter and from which drops down a stick with a valve on the end. Push the bottle up to start the flow, and drop it down to stop flow when full.

FRUIT PRESSES & CRUSHERS

Suitable for the smallholding, or anyone with access to a source of apples or pears, these robustly made items will produce prodigious quantities of juice with the minimum of fuss.

The press on it's own is suitable for soft fruit and grapes, but hard fruits - apples and pears - need to be crushed first prior to juicing.
